JDRF 2017

Walk with Us!

JAMAC has joined forces with one of our business colleagues in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) One Walk as JAMAC TJN (Team Juliet North). Our colleague’s daughter Juliet is a Type One Diabetic and was diagnosed when she was 6. Last year, we donated to Team Juliet and Andrew Marbach and John Clary decided to walk on Team Juliet’s behalf in the Jersey City event (the photo on our page is from last year’s walk), but wanted to do more, so this year we started a corporate team to help Team Juliet as several of our own team members have a personal connection to Diabetes. Team Juliet has raised over $22k the last 2 years and has a goal of $30k or more this year. We are seeking your help in doing our part to keep up this momentum and find a cure.

Type 1 diabetes is a serious and stressful disease to manage and can be deadly even under circumstances that seem like normal everyday life. Juliet’s blood sugar level must constantly be tested and injected insulin is necessary to keep things stable. In April of this year,Juliet had a run of the mill stomach virus which caused her to quickly dehydrate and go into life threatening DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis). She spent 3 days in the hospital to recover. For families with diabetics—T1D causes a lot of worry and sleepless nights as things like colds and viruses can quickly lead to life and death situations.

Each year, JDRF One Walk brings together more than 900,000 people across the country to change the future for everyone living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). This fun, family–friendly event gives people with T1D—and their friends, family and co–workers—the opportunity to raise money for life-changing T1D research.
